Robert L. Sheppard is a Senior Director of the Tax Credit Group (TCG) of Marcus & Millichap and Vice President of Investments of the National Multi Housing Group. Marcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Brokerage Company is the largest investment real estate brokerage firm in the country, with over $20 Billion in sales in 2006. Since beginning his investment brokerage career with Marcus & Millichap in 1994, Mr. Sheppard has closed over $1 Billion of multifamily and mixed-use product.
Mr. Sheppard formed and currently spearheads the Tax Credit Group, a team of real estate professionals exclusively dedicated to the brokerage of Section 42 Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) apartment properties throughout the United States. His primary focuses are business development, execution strategies, and advisory services for core clients. Since 2001, the group has closed 26,103 units of LIHTC product worth $1.145 Billion. Current assignments include 15,267 units valued at $856.7 Million. The group has analyzed projects in 47 states.
As a nationally recognized expert in the field of tax credit property brokerage, Mr. Sheppard has participated as a speaker or panelist at various industry conferences including NCSHA’s Housing Credit Conference, The AHF Live! Tax Credit Developers’ Summit, and the National Multi Housing Council’s Finance Forum, as well as various meetings and events sponsored by the Affordable Housing Investors Council (AHIC), the Reznick Group, and Novogradac & Company. He is an affiliate member of the National Council of State Housing Agencies (NCSHA), a member of the National Housing & Rehabilitation Association (NH&RA), and a member of the National Association of Home Builders’ (NAHB) Housing Credit Group Steering Committee.
Mr. Sheppard graduated from Pacific Lutheran University with degrees in Interpersonal Communications and Economics. Prior to joining Marcus & Millichap, he managed two Seattle-based developers’ real estate portfolios; his responsibilities ranged from acquisitions and dispositions to leasing and debt/equity syndication.
